40's style on the nile.

my book of the month for february?

RESURRECTION by tucker malarkey!

first let me explain how i came about to reading this. my sister, alicia, and my mother both read it awhile back. when my fancy for all things english and 30's/40's collided this past summer, alicia suggested that i have a wee look at it. it took me awhile to get into it, which is very typical of me. i tend to read about four chapters of a book and then come down with a temporary case of add, and start on a whole new book. but once i picked this book up for a second time, i couldn't put it down...geesh! here's a synopsis of this fantastic tale:

a young lady named gemma bastian is living in post ww2 london when she receives news of her fathers passing in cairo. she flies out to get his affairs in order and stays with her father's friends, the lazar family. the half-brothers, michael and anthony as so very different. michael is a scarred vet who lost a leg due to a plane crash and anthony makes a living/hobby out of his fascination with egyptian archeology and the history of christinaity. as the book goes on, hints start to appear suggesting the fact that there was more to gemma's father's death than what meets the eye. this leads her on the trail of discovering to what her father was working on when he died...the unveiling of the gospels of nag hammadi. she soon finds herself in the middle of the two brothers and in the middle of another war, which she has tried so very hard to forget. she soon discovers questions she thought she knew the answers to but really knew nothing at all!

i rather quite enjoyed this one. most books i tend to read just seem to get tossed out of my mind, have no aftertaste...but this one...it was great! i will admit that i was a bit disappointed by the ending, but keep calm and carry on, for this was only in the last chapter or two!

my rating: 4.5 out of 5 cups of tea for me! i really could have used a bit more closure on this one, but i love how miss malarkey incorporated so many genres i like such as romance, history, mystery, and ww2!

i would suggest checking out the author's sight here!
beg, borrow, steal (well, maybe not :)...buy it used online, that's what i would do or get it at the library if all the copies aren't checked out! it's really worth a look!

cheers :)

a novelistic idea.

i really wish i could just sit by the window and read all day long. my slight pickle of a predicament: zero time! i feel guilty when i do read because i am neglecting things more important, such as schule. then i feel guilty about not reading and finding time for myself, doing something i love. therefore i have discovered a solution to this dilemma. read one book a month, and tell you kind folks at home all about it! so, for this month of february i will be reading resurrection by tucker malarkey. i'm a few chapters in and so far i love it! england + ww2 + cairo + mystery = LOVELY! i can't put it down...it's like yarn on sale for a knitter!

cheers :)

p.s. i am in love with hydrangeas, in love!
