crazy in the rain
so i've gone a bit bonkers lately, thus resulting in the reading of not one but three novels this month. such as...
// east of the sun by julia gregson
// the girl with the dragon tattoo by stieg larsson
// the sweet in-between by sheri reynolds
.... a bit ironic seeing how april was pretty much the busiest month of my life! well, i guess you could say that i read when i'm stressed :) instead of doing my normal review for all of these i will write three short ones, ok?
- east of the sun: set in 1930's england, this novel follows the journey of three young women on a voyage to india. rose, who is betrothed to an english soldier stationed in india brings her friend, victoria (tor) along for one last adventure before she has to remain in india forever. their chaperon, viva is en route to india in hopes of starting over and securing a trunk that once belonged to her parents when her and her family lived in india. this book incorporates so many genres, romance, coming of age, mystery, family.... it was a big old book but i definitely think it it worth the arthritis you will get from turning so many pages...five out of five cups of tea for me, please.
- the girl with the dragon tattoo: i first saw this book on the bestsellers shelf at barnes and noble and loved the cover. once i saw it was on the mass-market paperback route, i secured a copy from target. this also was a huge book but my goodness, it went by fast. basically the story follows the plot of a swedish financial journalist, michael who is hired by henrik vanger, and old man with lots of money. he asks michael to solve a crime that happened forty years ago and started with the disappearance of his niece, harriet. i was not expecting at all what would happen in this book and i was a bit thrown off in regards to killer and his methods. this is a rather violent novel so i forewarn you now! but all in all i thought the author must have had a very twisted mind to come up with something like this! i would recommend it to fellow agatha christie fans and would give it four out of five cups of tea...
- the sweet in-between: set in the south, this follows the tale of a seventeen year old girl named kenny. due to traumatic events of her past, she now dresses like a boy and is disgusted by all things girly. because her father is in prison, she is now living with her father's girlfriend, aunt glo, and her two sons and one granddaughter. this was a very interesting story and the dynamics in the family were very unique. it was a very quick read which seemed the leave the book very open-ended. it was a bit quirky so i would give it three out of five cups of tea..
now onto more pressing matters....
ONE MORE WEEK UNTIL ENGLAND!
it seems like it was only a few days ago that i found out we were going. now it's only seven days away. final details are starting to fall into place and i am making lists upon lists, making sure i don't forget anything. i cannot wait to ramble throughout the countryside filling up my camera with pictures and filling up my journal with entries.
instead of twiddling my thumbs this week, waiting for may 18th, i went to joann's today and bought fabric for a dress for my niece kalee's birthday present and some fabric for a summer top for me :) will post pictures soon of the final product, it's going to be great! i'm determined to make these projects look good. i always get too excited and rush to finish them before bed and they turn out like crap, then i can't fall asleep. so to change that, i will be working on them tomorrow during the day when i'm not in a crunch for time, good eh?
my roommate, leah, and i are planning on creating a blog were we can post all our favorite recipes on. so far i have snickerdoodle bars to add to the blog, made them today, sooooo many calories, soooo good!
trying to keep calm and carry on before the big trip...i need to practice with some tranquilizers for the plane :)
CHEERS!
p.s. it is raining here and it is may. CRAZY. that is all.

may days!
my much neglected craft list has been growing at an alarming rate. now that i can see the light at the end of the tunnel, all i'm thinking about is all the fun things i'm going to make this summer! i'll only be working 10-15 hours a week this summer and taking online classes, so what better to do than spend the summer with my trusty sewing machine that has been accumulating dust since last last summer...ooopps! florals and polka dots are a must! here's what i have found so far...

fifteen days and counting...
cheers :)
